A Miscellany Of Updates

The plan at this point, barring disaster, is to unveil The List here next week. The full list will go up on its own page at the Sad Puppies site and go live at the same time, more or less.

This requires me to finish collation in a week, which should be possible, although I’m not going to guarantee that my spelling is 100%. For that matter, there have been quite a few judgment calls and will be more, but I’m erring on the side of generosity, so if anything I’m over-counting rather than under-counting.

That’s one.

I’m going to be at Lunacon from March 18 through March 20, so anyone who’s attending and feels inclined to brave the temporal anomalies and space-time portals of the M.C. Escher Memorial Hotel… (ahem) Hilton Westchester, you’ll be able to meet me there. I asked to be on a fair few panels and the programming is what it usually is (aka not finalized yet) so I’m likely to be needing to bend time and space to make everything – it’s one of the things that makes Lunacon fun.

For those who wonder, I’ll be the one with the Dracula Never Sparkled badge and (if I can find it – there have been Demon Berserker Kitten depredations in the badge zone) the Gay Mormon Male With a Great Rack badge. There will also be a high probability of flair, and possibly also sparkle. And glitter. Be warned. The glitter has a tendency to follow everyone everywhere. I think it may be sentient.

That’s two.

I’ll also be at Ravencon this year (April 29 through May 1) for anyone who’d prefer the environs of Williamsburg, VA.

I think that one counts as half an update, or maybe less.

Planning for the Puppy Presence at Worldcon continues under wraps until we have things sufficiently stable to make an announcement. The goal there is to be at the convention, have fun (lots of fun), and meet friends face to face. If I can arrange it there will be a PuppyGate in honor of the Jeopardy question and visitors will have to cross the PuppyGate to enter the fun zone.

That’s three.

And now for the obligatory notices to finish off the post:

Obligatory notice 1: It might be too late to sign up to nominate, but you can still sign up to vote!

Obligatory notice 2: Read, watch, listen to, then nominate.

Obligatory notice 3: The Demon Berserker Kitten will be petted. Now.

Hey, I’m moving to the Hampton Roads area of Virginia in mid- April! I may actually be able to to go to RavenCon! When I’m not looking for a house, that is. Yay!

Awesome! I’ll look forward to seeing you there!

Just be careful at the con. There will be plenty of folks who will attempt to abuse the con’s code of conduct to try and get you expelled. Remember the Honey Badgers at the Calgary Expo.

I shall. Thanks for the warning.

“Read, watch, listen to, then nominate.”

If you want to have enough time to do so, I’d suggest not waiting for the list.

You can get a head start on the best novels because someone else already added them up and posted them:

I’m sure a whole lot of people started early because it’s been possible to see what books were being added to the list all along. But thanks so much for the helpful help. And whatshisface too. It must be amazing to have such a big heart.

Yeah, I’m a little leary of Steve Davidson’s “help” when he can’t refrain from using it as a poop joke. He’s all class, that one.

I’m sure there will be other cons.

Its just a thing with John having passed, nothing else.

And, inevitably, the peanut gallery weighs in:

“Aaron on March 11, 2016 at 10:38 am said:

    (12) Is it just me, or does Kate’s phrasing seem a little bit desperate. “We’ll be having FUN! Not like those other people at regular Worldcon! You have to come to the Puppy zone to have FUN!” Its like she’s working very hard to convince herself that she’s going to be enjoying herself, almost like Chevy Chase when he has his epic meltdown in the rain in Phoenix in National Lampoon’s Vacation.”

Well, Mr. Pound, I suspect it will be more fun than stalking Joe Vasiek on Twitter, at least.

Seems to me that someone’s forgotten the point of any con is to have fun. Rightfun, wrongfun, doesn’t matter. If you’re not enjoying yourself, you probably don’t need to be there.

Peanut Gallery’s supercilious peanut could do with a reminder that Puppy fun is innocent enjoyment of science fiction and fantasy, meeting new friends, and catching up with long-term friends. It’s not being nasty to those who aren’t part of Puppy-dom, and it’s not handing out assterisks and insulting stalwarts of the genre.

(Besides, sometimes I need to remind myself that I’m here to have fun. Otherwise Kate the Impaler comes out to play, and that’s always a bitch to clean up).
