Sometimes, I got nothing. That’s not true; I have way too much going on, but none of it comes to mind, or seems relevant when I sit down and stare at this page. It’s a perception issue; someone who’s head was in the game could take the exact same experiences and spin them into parables and metaphors of the writing life.
Me, I’m just sort of looking a this and going, “When all else fails, free-writing will fill the page. Put thoughts down, and maybe you’ll get nothing useful, and maybe you’ll win. Can’t win if you don’t play… (does that make sitting down only when you have a chapter or post in mind ‘Can’t play if you don’t win?’)”
So I’m playing a game of chance with my subconscious. Thankfully, it’s not Russian Roulette with my muse!
Heh. Now there’s a short story idea.
Which is not the same as the insightful blog post I was hoping for, but in three paragraphs I’ve gone from “I got nothing” to “I go nothing useable for me right now.”
So when you’ve got nothing… just start writing. It’s never as hopeless as it feels!

Thank you! Hope life stops beating you up! (Posted also posted this to another blog by mistake but it was fairly applicable for that blogger as well).
Yup. Some days, the best I can manage is going back through projects-in-progress and tidying up things, or adding a line or two. Eventually, the words return, or I finish the in-progress and it can be sent out the door.
Yeah, I’ve been having that problem with my current WIP. I know where I want to go with it, just not finding the words to get there.
Oh, yeah, that one. “How do I get the story from where it is now to where it needs to go? Who says, or does, what, next?”
You guys worry too much. ~:D If you can’t word today, go do one of the other 10,000 things that need doing. For sure when you’re right in the middle of some job, the words will explode.
Always remember, the perversity of the universe tends toward a maximum.
Write it, stick it in a file and keep it. Never know when it might come in handy!!!
