Look, truly, I’m not running off on the novel in progress — and I need to get to it sooner rather than later — but this week has been marked by extreme allergies (all kinds. Respiratory bothers me most, though) and if I take benadryl I can breathe, but I can’t write.
On top of all I found out yesterday my mother is having severe cardiac issues, and she’s afraid of dying before she sees me and the kids again. (We haven’t been there for three and a half years.)
Now, time wise this is impossible till at least Christmas, and Christmas will be difficult money-wise, but can possibly be done.
Well, that’s life.
However, with one thing and another and another and yet another, I haven’t gone back and read Elf Blood, and because it’s been on hiatus so long I’ve forgotten details and can’t continue easily. I beg you to grant me another week.
Also, while you’re at it go read this on how NOT to be a precious snowflake.

While the apology is appreciated your health and your family always take precedence.
Gathering all the will and good wishes I can muster to hope your mom is OK and that a Christmas trip winds up being doable. If nothing else a quick visit, just yourself if you can’t swing the entire family. Dan and the boys would probably survive, begging scraps from the neighbors if nothing else. And it would be the perfect excuse for cutting the visit short.
Take care. We’ll survive (I think [Grin]).
Real life takes precedence over blog(s). Big time. Go rest, recover, get well soon, and kind thoughts aiming at your mother.
FWIW, I am now a real author. *buffs cute little claws on shirt* I got my first one-star rating on Amazon, from someone who didn’t bother to finish the book. No, I am not going to lose sleep over it, or cry in my Russian tea (which is not a euphemism. I’m drinking a pot of Troika blend.)
Congratulations! Welcome to the ranks of “Real Authors”! Now the buying public knows your good reviews aren’t sockpuppets!
Next up – see if you can get one claiming they got a book on sale when it’s never been so, or that denounces you for your real or imagined politics!
ehgads. the review on Noah’s Boy — they liked it until they hit the politics. WHAT POLITICS?
Maybe they meant the guy who mentioned the pointlessness of minimum wage laws? Perfectly true, and relevant to the story where it’s introduced, but it’s just the kind of thing that would rasp the nerves of a Leftist.
I considered that — though it was a bit of tuckerizing of our very own Jason Cordova — but he sounded like he’d read most of the book before he “hit the politics” and that was RIGHT upfront. So… I think he HEARD about AFGM or perhaps DSR and left a review on the wrong book 😀
Family is always more important. Hope she gets well soon, and that you have a chance to see her.
Praying for your mother. And going to go hug mine.
Thank you. I love America. I’m an American. But the price I paid is this — the shortening of the time I had with my family, and the fear, now they’re over eighty, that each visit will be the last. I still miss grandma who went 20 years ago.
Yeah, I still miss my grandma too, and it’s been almost eighteen years since she passed. One of the disadvantages of getting married well after twenty-three (glanced at that post a little) is my wife didn’t get to know my grandmother, or my dad either for that matter.
As far as the work / family balance goes, my criteria is that there some things only I can do. Only I can be a husband to my wife, and I only I can be a father to our children, and I try to prioritize accordingly.
Changing horses in mid-stream, or topics rather, do you do typo hunts on Rogue Magic on the website or is there a parallel process that is done offline?
When it’s finished, it goes to editors. The story will be tweaked and some chapters lost and some gained, too.
Take care of yourself and your family. We’ll be fine.
Hoping your mom does well, I had a heart attack in 2007 (August) and am still kicking. Your mom probably will too. She’s got to be younger than this old man.
Speaking of youth, the snowflake, stated that he has published one 60K book in something like seven years. I started writing after the heart attack. I now have at least 10; 130K books in the drawer that only need a final edit, chaptering, cover and send to Amazon or Smashwords. I just don’t care that much about getting into print. He may be a published writer, but, I’m not sure the word ‘writer’ fits unless you count the 60K article on why he won’t self publish. My biker road name is ‘longtalker.’ and he can’t have it either.
My mom is eighty, so no.
Mea Capa or its equivalent. I forgot you were a December child. Will say a prayer in her behalf.
