A long, long road you drove us down… Or, it’s a long, long way from there to here (and they’re, geographically, the same place. Had our final house inspection this morning, finally. Other than a few, relatively minor issues we have to sort, photograph, and submit… I believe we’re done. From experience, I won’t celebrate until it is all signed off, but it seems we’ve crossed a lot of hurdles.
Like so many books, it seemed impossible to finish…
I am really, really badly burned out by this. Not that today itself was a bad day… just run-up has been hellish, and very long and full of obstacles. The physical side was hard. The petty bureaucracy, far harder and nastier. Anyway: it gave me CLOUD-CASTLES, and STORM-DRAGON — both of which drew their villains to some extent, from bureaucracy. I know. It’s been a theme in many of my books, long before this, since RATS, BATS & VATS. Anyway, the bill for the emotional and mental toll is still due. It takes me a couple of weeks to recover from a book — and this was much worse and longer. But we move on.
Anyway — Sunday 16th August, 1 p.m. Sunday (Eastern US time) I will be appearing on the Zoom PROMETHEUS AWARDS EVENT (that’s the link) to get my Special Award, along with J. Kenton Pierce who won the Prometheus and Hall of Fame Award for BRAVE NEW WORLD. I still have to write my speech, and will be delivering it at 3 AM my time. I can tell that will bring out the best in me. Do join us to hear me say: ‘Urgle flobba wobble fligits, Ponfrect!’
