Last time I was here, I treated you all to a lament about the vagaries of publishing software. I’m pleased to inform you that all of those hiccups have been overcome or otherwise bypassed. After a four year lapse in publishing- though no lapse in writing, which is its own lament!- The Root of All Evil is now available here in ebook form. Paperbacks will be forthcoming in the near future. If you like regency romance, cozy mystery, or an undemanding little yarn with a mostly happy ending, check it out, because it’s all of those.

Many thanks to our own Sarah Hoyt for her fantastic cover art. I love Kate’s expression; she’s so very done with all of this nonsense that’s disrupting her home and her life.
I swore this would be a stand-alone novel, because it’s my first real attempt at the genre. Since I have a habit of writing myself into corners, a stand-alone novel should eliminate that particular difficulty and leave me more brain space to concentrate on learning the genre, right?
Right?
Nah. Of course not. Brains work in mysterious ways. About ten minutes after I hit the ‘publish’ button, I started thinking about new characters and a plot for my next attempt, and about ten minutes after that, it coalesced into a sequel featuring Mrs. Heyward, whom you’ll meet in The Root of All Evil. So, look for that later this year, or more likely, early in 2025.
I’ve got some other things in the pipeline to keep me busy; the main project is bringing out paper editions of works I’ve already published. I think I have five or six of those between the regencies and the space regencies. I know most people nowadays prefer ebooks, but there’s something about holding a paperback that I’ll never not enjoy. I want to give other people that experience, but in the meantime, if you prefer ebooks, or even if it’s not your favorite format, give The Root of All Evil a look.
Happy reading!
