I am sorry, I got up this morning with great plans – and found myself as sick as a dog, with a tummy bug and what feels like the cold-from-hell (could be part and parcel of the same thing). The latter I can ignore, but the former has me feeling a trifle miserable – and not wanting to leave proximity to the porcelain throne. I’ve done a bit of reading, written half an introduction, and felt very sorry for myself. Someone had to. Anyway, I daresay I shall feel better tomorrow.

This is the link to an interview I did last week with Edward Willett. Sadly, there was quite a lot of echo on the first part. I’m not very good at these. I speak rather like I type, with pauses for thought.

Having now finished my read-through of the stories submitted for MAD SCIENCE and now trying to decide between several ‘Maybe’, I have to say that are far more brilliant ideas that I wish had better executions out there: Advice for writers: Please always give your character agency. Please DON’T submit works where ‘no resemblance to persons alive or dead’ is not something you’ve considered. Please DON’T use characters or scenes out of an existent novel or series – even if your own. This almost always rests on the assumption that the audience knows the work, and tends to read like a snippet or a teaser.

  1. Fluids, warmth, sleep (where possible) and comfort books. Get better!

  2. If it’s the nasty one that was going around in early March in my area, the good news is that the inability to keep food down only lasts about 18 hours. On persons living or dead…exactly how many of the submissions was Nikolai Tesla in? 😀

    Take care.

  4. Sick again, Dave? That’s harsh. Too much burning the candle at both ends. ~:D

Here in the Peeple’s Repugnant of Canaduh it is -finally- a warm day, so there will be some work done here at Chez Phantom. And maybe I’ll get a ride in as well, that’ll be nice.

Have to get all the outdoor done before the bugs start, that’ll be tomorrow. 😡 One warm day is all it takes…

Sorry to hear you’re under the weather, Dave. (I’ve been there.)
    Hope you’ll feel better soon.

Oh, by the way, maybe this is a good time and place to let you know something that I was about to email you – some good news that perhaps might lift your spirits….

Your 2025 novel Storm-Dragon has just been nominated by LFS members for the next Prometheus Award for Best Novel!

It also has the honor of being the very first work nominated in this 2025 cycle for the next award.

    So congrats!
